Atlast they caught sight of a small islandnamed Navasa, about eight leagues fromHayti. Here they found rain water,but this boon proved the death of some,who drank of it immoderatelv. Aug. 13. He arrived at SanDomingo, and was received with greatapparent favor by Ovando and the people.He found his own estates in confusion,and with difficulty could make arrange-ments for a return to Spain. 1504. Sept. 12. Columbus sailedfrom San Domingo with two caravels,after having collected all the rents anddues he was able to secure. 1504. Nov. 7. He reached San Lu-car, Spain, with one vessel, the otherhaving been sent back to San Domingoafter a tempest.
