13,1 * Decrease. Tests of Nickel-Steel Riveted Joints, by Arthur N. Tal-bot and Herbert F. Moore, has just been issued as Bulletin No.49 of the Engineering Experiment Station of the LTniversity ofIllinois. This bulletin describes tests of riveted joints of nickel-steel in tension and in alternated tension and compression. Theslip of rivets and the strength of joints were determined. Fromthe tests, the general conclusion is drawn that in riveted joints, designed on the basis of ultimate strength, the use of nickel-stee! may be of advantage; but that in riveted joints designedon the basis of frictional hold of rivets, while it may be advan-tageous to use nickel-steel for the plates, rivets of ordinary steelseem to resist slip as well as rivets of nickel-steel. Copies ofBulletin No. 49 may be obtained gratis upon application to W.F. M. Goss, Director of the Engineering Experiment Station,University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois. 436 AMERICAN ENGINEER AND RAILROAD JOURNAL. November. 1911.
