Thatconflict, known in history as The War of 1812, may properlybe called THE SECOND WAR FOE INDEPENDENCE. 11. Congress made ample provisions for prosecuting thewar on land. The American Navy was then feeble com-pared to that of Great Britain^ it having only twelve largewar vessels, while the Royal Navy contained over nine hun-dred of all kinds.
