(a) Chestnut Hill Pumping Stations.A new boiler at the Chestnut Hill high-service pumping station,of a design the same as that of the two boilers obtained in the year1901, was contracted for and has been installed, and has addedmuch to the efficiency of the high service. The cost of the boiler asdelivered at the station was $2,976. (b) Arlington Pumping Station.The new Arlington pumping station, which had been about halfconstructed in the year 1906, has been fully completed during thepast year. The main building is 90 feet long and 46 feet wide, andhas a height of 26 feet from the surface of the ground to the cor-nice. The foundations are of concrete surmounted with seam-facedgranite, and the exterior walls are of dark-red brick with brown-stone trimmings, and are covered with-a hip roof. Considerable grading of thegrounds about the station has been required. The pumping engine, which had been contracted for, was installedand was put into operation near the end of the year. It had beenintended to remove to the new station and to put into operation one ofthe old pumping engines formerly belonging to the town of Arling-ton, but it was found that it was incapable of prolonged use, and acontract was made for a second engine. This engine, which has, likethe other, a capacity of pumping 1,500,000 gallons per day, will becompleted early in the coming year.
