CHAPTER LXXVI. WHO TOUCHED ME? THERE is nothing more unreasonable andungovernable than a crowd of people. Menwho standing alone or in small groups are deliber-ate in all they do, lose their self-control when theycome to stand in a crowd. You have noticed this,if you have heard a cry of fire in a large assem-blage, or have seen people moving about in greatexcitement in some mass-meeting, shoving, jostlingand pulling at each other. Shecomes close enough to put her finger on the hemof Christs garment, and the very moment sheputs her finger on that garment, Jesus says:Who touched me? 478

I remark that poverty touches him. The Biblesays that this woman had spent all her moneyon physicians; she had not got the worth of hermoney. Those physicians in Oriental lands werevery incompetent for their work, and very exor-bitant in their demands. You know they have ahabit even to this day in those countries ofmaking very singular charges. Sometimes theyexamine the capacity of the person to pay, andthey take the entire estate. At any rate, this woman spoken of in the texthad spent her money on physicians, and very poorp
