This closed the days work,for noon was coming, and it was thought best not to tempt toostrongly the noon-day sun of India. The Colonel came backto Jeypore with the tusks of the two boars and the horns of theantelope as his trophies. As a young Americans first day inthe jungle the result was a triumph for our expedition, and wefelt so much interest in the tusks and the horns and the narra-tive of the days adventures that we began to feel ourselvessharers in the glory, and that we, too, had been in the grass,charging the wild boar and pursuing the flying deer. The Col-onel thanked the Maharajah for having given him so fine adays sport.
