Good shop facilities are also importantin the matter of saving coal throughtheir relation to locomotive maintenance.Every piece of poor or careless work,whether in connection with the boilerparts, the engine parts, or the auxiliaryapparatus, means a loss of coal laterthrough less satisfactory locomotive per-formance. Shop men and shop officialsshould recognize the responsibility theybear in matters of this kind. Leaksmean losses which are often repeated dayafter day.
