It is thepurpose of this paper to review briefly the changes in the char-acter and extent of the service that have been made since thepresentation of the papers referred to and to consider certaingeneral aspects of the service as now furnished. The initial long-wave radio circuit has now been supple-mented by three radio circuits which operate at short wave-lengths ranging from approximately 12 to 50 meters and whichterminate at New York and London. In addition to the Euro-pean service, arrangements have been made for establishingtelephone service early this year between the United Statesand points in South America by the use of a short wave radiotelephone circuit with terminals at New York and BuenosAires. The whole of England and Scotland, Dublin and Belfast inIreland, most of the important cities and countries in Europe,and one point in Africa, are now within reach of telephone usersin the United States, Canada, Cuba, and Mexico. The num-ber of points between which the service is available is continu-ously increasing, as new points and even whole new countriesare added from time to time as the necessary arrangements aremade. Very soon after the inauguration of the telephoneservice between New York and London, this service was madeavailable to telephone users in all parts of the United States.Soon thereafter extensions were made to Canada, Cuba, andMexico. In Europe the extensions have closely followed thedevelopment of the continental connections centering at Lon-don, which is still the European terminal of the transatlantictelephone circuits.
