The parade then be-gan its tour about theroom, Dante, carrying a staff surmounted by a golden bull, serving asdrum-major. Angel musicians, playing upon sacredlyres and harps, followed in his wake, but the dolor-ous organ made the more noise. Behind the lyreangels came a number of the notables whom Danteimmortalized,—at least, we judged that they were sointended.
