nding the view from the FoscariPalace in one direction to the church of the Salute and themouth of the canal in the other. Nearly opposite them isa very striking house, the Ca Dario, built, I imagine, aboutthe commencement of the sixteenth century, before therevived Classic feeling had fully possessed the Venetians,and displaying some efiective and beautiful arrangements ofconstructional decoration with coloured marbles. It is,in fact, an attempt to revive, to some extent, the art ofincrustation, as practised at S. Marks; and so successfulis it, that I wonder much that more examples are notmet with. In the Grand Canal, and near this spot, are many otherbuildings, all worthy of illustration, but adding, I think,nothing to what we already know. The Ca Fasan is themost unlike the other mediaeval houses of any; but itpleased me so little that I could not bring myself to wastetime by sketching it. It is only fair to say that in itstraceried balconies it approaches more nearly to the latest
