l. 156.Raii fyn. a<v. 143. Descrip. TTS weight is about one pound twelve ounces:A its length nineteen inches; its breadth two feetand a half. The bill is of a deep lead color: thehead and neck are of a bright bay color: the breadand part of the back where it joins the neck, areblack : the coverts of the wings, the fcapulars, backand fides under the wings are of a pale grey,elegantly marked with narrow lines of black : thequil feathers duiky : the belly afh colored andbrown : the tail confifts of twelve fhort feathers, ofa deep grey color: the legs lead colored: theirides of a bright yellow, tinged with red. Female. The head of the female is of a pale reddifh brown : the bread is rather of a deeper color:the coverts of the wings a plain afh color : theback marked like that of the male : the belly afhcolored. Thele birds frequent frefh water as well asthe iea-, and being very delicate eating, are muchfought for in the. London markets, where they areknown by the name of Dm birds. Anas

The weight was twenty oun-ces : the bill is long and flatted, rounded a littleat the bafe, ferrated along the edges of each man-dible, and furnifhed with a nail at the end of theupper. The color a pale blue. The head, neck,and whole upper part of the bird is of an agreea-ble reddifh brown: the throat, bread and belly ofthe fame color, but paler : the legs of a pale blue;but the webs of the feet black. This fpecies, he informed us, was killed in Lin-colnjhire. We do not find it mentioned by any wri-ter, except Linnaeus, who toke his defcription fromRudbecks paintings \ and adds, that it is found,though rarely, in the Swedijh rivers, Anas fiftularis (ein Pfeifente) Anas fiftularis, le Canard fif- 286.
