It is distinctly understood, however, as faras the trade work is concerned, that the certificate isgiven for attainment in skill and knowledge of thetrade rather than for length of service. As it is impossible for trade students to earnmoney at their trade during the first part of theircourse, it is expected that those who cannot pay theirboard in cash will have from fifty dollars to eighty-fivedollars credit accumulated from previous work at theInstitute to cover their necessary expenses. Text Appearing After Image:
TRADE COURSES meet his expenses. Many students are able to earnenough, after the first year, to pay all necessary expens-es, but the school can in no way guarantee this, asthe amount earned varies with the amount of work onhand, the ability and experience of the student, andthe number among whom the work must be distributed. It is evident that, as this business is carried on mainlyfor its educational value, the work must be distributedimpartially among the students and cannot be givenout solely to those who are most in need of financial aid. As the commercial business cannot be entirelydropped during the summer months all trade studentswill be expected to remain during these months if itseems advisable. The summer practice often formsthe best part of their trade experience. It is undertood that a student entering one of thetrade courses will confine himself generally to his par-ticular line of work throughout the course. However, some experience in other trades may be given whenapproved
