is was the chief known to the Creoles of Green Bay as OldKing. His village was on the west side of Fox River, just above thesite of Fort Howard. His Indian name was Chakachokania, and thename given in this certificate is the French form of Shawnee. Prob-ably his mother was Of that tribe or the name was given in com-pliment, at some alliance. This chief was doubtless of the family ofOgeemaunee, to whom a certificate was • given in 1764; see ante.He was grandfather of Oshkosh, and lived until 1821, when hedied while on a visit to Prairie du Chien. In his later years hewas an imbecile, and his authority was wielded by others, notablymembers of the Carron family; he was, however, always treated withgreat respect by his tribe. This certificate was deposited in the Wis-consin Historical Library by the late Louis B. Porlier.—Ed. 00 For a brief note on Capt. Edward Foy see Wis. Hist. Colls., xii,p. 48. Gov. Hamilton^ in all his entei-prises against the Reb-els, and as I have learned by letter from the Lieut. Governorthat he has gone to dislodge the Rebels of the Illinois*^ and ^^ Henry Hamiltou was of Irish descent, of the family of the Mar-quis of Boyne.
