Wright, Farm Management Special-ist in Agricultural Extension of the University, went over the booksof 20 farmers at Durham. He has made a tabulation of their financialstatus which is given below. His records are worthy of study by everycolonizer in California because there is nothing theoretical aboutthem. They are actual results obtained under more than ordinarilyfavorable conditions. Of course, it should be understood that Durham is still in thedevelopment period; that the orchards are not yet in bearing, andthat, because of this, the incomes of these farms will continue toincrease for the next five years; but the development at Durham isfar ahead of that of the average settlement of its age and the incomesare proportionately larger. ***** 247) COLONIZATION AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN CALIFORNIA 23
