ELIZABETH MEAGHER. Governor Toole, I now present to you this beautiful sta-tue on behalf of the Meagher Memorial Association of Mon-tana. Unveiling the Statue. At the conclusion of tlie remarks of Mr. Lynch the statuewas unveiled. Miss Anastasia OMeara pulled the cord, andthe starry banner that had been entwined about the horseand figure of the general floated away, revealing the work ofbronze in all its striking beauty. Just as the flags fell the buglers of the Twenty-fourthsounded the call. Then the four companies each fired threesalutes. This was followed by a salute by Company B of theSecond n^giment, National Guard of Montana. The StateTapital band played a short selection and then Gov. Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, and tlie MeagiierMemorial Association:—It is refreshing in this busy work-ing day to pause long enough to remember that the mostsacred and best part of a nation is not in those things whichpiiake honor for its material uses. The nation is great be-cause we have rendered it so by the great words that havebeen spoken in it, great deeds that have been done in it,great statues that have been erected in it, and the greatsacrifices that have been sanctified—these are among thenations greatest. It is therefore not only most appropriate,but eminently fitting that the citizens of this republic shouldaave combined to honor this day and year and to perpetuatethe memory of Thomas Francis Meagher; and to do it hereamong the friends whom he loved, and here upon the soilupon which he helped to establish law and order, Montana, remembering his glories and achievements,and still
