Handwritten copy of letter; not William Lloyd Garrison's handwriting. Whereabouts of original manuscript unknown
William Lloyd Garrison thanks Samuel May Jr. for contributions to the fund being raised to pay for George Thompson's passage to Europe. He will try to find employment for George Thompson in England. He will urge the court to give the Francis Jackson bequest to the New England Freedmen's Aid Society. Garrison writes: "The suffrage question is now obsolete at the South. The enfranchised freedmen, under the Congressional reconstruction act, will never allow themselves to be deprived of the ballot, except at the peril of civil war; and that the whites will not dare to provoke." Garrison will meet the committee on the National Testimonial at their convenience. Mrs. Mary Ann White Johnson will stay with Mrs. Garrison during William L. Garrison's European trip
