While this diagram in all details does notexactly correspond with the controller shown, the connections arethe same. The upper part of this figure shows the relative positionsof motors, controllers, rheostats (or resistance grids), cables, anddetails. The cables are canvas-covered bundles of wires correspond-ing to those shown connected to the controller fingers, Figs. 57 and 58. MULTIPLE=UNIT CONTROLLER The multiple-unit controller differs from the manual controllerin that the motor connections as shown in the diagrams are made bycircuit breakers which can open circuits carrying very heavy currents.A second very important feature of this system, as the name indi-cates, is the operation of all of the motors in a train from one point.A third advantage is the ease with whichthe accelerating current, which is alwaysmuch larger than the running current, canbe limited.
