Description
English: Descriptions of battles by sea & land...(caricature)

Signed by the artist, 'RD 1794', lower right, this relates to a well known print of 1801 (see PAD4733 and other copies, PAG8545 and PAH3336). Whether it is in fact by Dighton is another matter which should not be uncritically accepted without further authentication. It seems inherently unlikely that a commercial print publisher would have sat on the drawing for seven years before etching and issuing it. The colour is also very bold and the handling suggests it may be a later pastiche, with a false signature and date. It depicts the uniform of both the Chelsea and Greenwich Pensioner.
