method gives fairlysatisfactory results, but takes considerable time and labor.Experiments which we have made with a disc machine indicatethat the differences in color which are produced by mixing thecoloring medium in varying proportions with a definite quantityof another coloring material is directly proportional to the quan-tity of the coloring medium used. For instance, we have foundthat in mixing white lead and lampblack, the results are distinctlyimpressionistic. The black becomes blended to the eye just asoccurs on the rotation of the disc machine, and in the same pro-portion. Whether this is true of all coloring media we have notas yet been able to determine but the matter is under investiga-tion. We hope with the opacity measuring apparatus referred toand the disc machine to determine the relation between strengthand hiding power and opacity.
