lent, due not to faultydesign but to the impossibility of getting into a finishedmachine what the designers intended. A considerablenumber of generator fires were reported, due pre-sumably to the difficulty of securing first-class opera-tion, combined, no doubt, with the same shortcomingsas appeared in turbines. The manufacturers and opera-tors who devoted their energies during the war periodto the insuring of an adequate and reliable power supplyperformed a patriotic duty of no mean magnitude.
