  • Significance: The Fort Hunt Park Royal Visit Pin Oak (Quercus palustris) is significant because of its association with the visitation of England's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in June 1939. The tree commemorates not only the arrival of the king and queen, the first reigning English monarchs to travel to the United States, but also the success of the Civilian Conservation Corps facility established at Fort Hunt.
