acostumbradas cacerías arqueológicas. Es la delpueblo de Gazolaz : en la cartera la llevo, dibujada por mi fielexplorador Iturralde.—Esta iglesia, consagrada á la Purifica-ción de Nuestra Señora, es una construcción notable por su an-tigüedad, que desde el primer aspecto se denuncia como de finesdel siglo xi. Tiene al mediodía un pórtico, todo abierto, divididoen cuatro tramos con otros tantos arcos, separados exterior-mente unos de otros por medio de robustos contrafuertes. Vuel-ve el pórtico á oriente, con otro arco, y son todos éstos demedio punto y de gran carácter monumental. Pongo el dibujo átu vista para que contemples á tu sabor la agradable esceno-grafía que este pórtico ofrece, dejando ver por entre los arcosexteriores, otros que á modo de ajimeces aparecen al fondo, vol-teados sobre columnas ya pareadas, ya en grupos de á cuatro,cuyos capiteles merecían detenido estudio.
