Text Appearing Before Image:
Porcelain Tea Service: Royal Porcelain Factory of Berlin. winter. The Jardiniere that we illustrate on page 213 is as graceful andpretty a device of this kind as need be desired. It is the work of Reed &Barton, of Taunton, Mass., and is so artistic that even if it is not used for thepurpose for which it is designed, it will always be a charming ornamentin itself. On page 214 we engrave a section of a wonderful Gold Necklace, fromthe Egyptian Court, that shows the peculiar characteristics of that school ofdesign. The reader will observe the entire absence of scrolls and interwovenpatterns, and the straightness of the lines. Yet whatever it may lack, to oureyes, in elaborateness of design, is made up in the workmanship, which isastonishingly fine and minute. The very simplicity and severity of the devicewill probably recommend this necklace to the esteem of many. 2l6 THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, 1876. ■. //////§
