Physical description Note: Plate marks extend well beyond printed area. Scale: [ca. 1:1 500 000]. Cartographic Note: North at 180 degrees. Borders graduated for latitude. Single compass rose with radiates. Scale in German miles. Soundings and shoals in Straits. Additional Places: Straits of Magellan, Tierra del Fuego, Chile, Patagonia. Contents Note: Title cartouche supported by penguins. Inset view. Decoration: ships, whale, sealions.

From the 1606 or later editions of the Mercator-Hondius atlas. On the reverse are 2 pages (359 & 360) of descriptive text in Latin.
