m land. Timber isabundant. Mcpherson. McPherson, the county seat of McPherson County, has a steadilyincreasing population of 3,280. The city has electric lights, water-works, churches, and fine school buildings. The Dunkard Collegehere has recently been enlarged. There are four railroads intersectingat this point. An ice plant has been erected in the last year, and twolarge flour mills. McPherson County is one of the banner wheat-pro-ducing counties of the State; the value of the farming lands in thecounty is over $12,000,000. Throughout the entire county are foundevidences of the flourishing condition of the country. As it is situated near the center of the State, surrounded by finefarming lands, McPherson is destined to be one of the most prosperoustowns in Kansas. COFFEYVILLE. To the title of a clean residence place, a veritable housekeepersparadise, Coffeyville has strong claims. There is no soot, no coal;natural gas is the natural fuel of the town. To all such, in which the item of fuel is important, theCity of Coffeyville offers remarkable inducements. The railroad con-nections and shipping facilities are the most complete of any town inSouthern Kansas, and it is the second largest grain distributing pointin the State, being surpassed in this only by Kansas City. Among theleading industries of Coffeyville may be mentioned a vitrified brickfactory, manufacturing brick from bluff shale and burning same withnatural gas; large flouring mills and mammoth elevators, sash anddoor factories and planing mills, ice plants and cold storage ware-houses, railroad repair shops (four division termini of the MissouriPacific are located here), and all lines of business are w^ell represented.Coffeyville also has a recently erected pottery plant, a paper mill, andan egg-case filler
