Here we see for the first time onour line the maguey plant cultivated extensively. Proximity tothe city of Mexico here makes it possible to market pulque, thenative drink extracted from this plant. From Tula a branch of the Mexican Central runs to Pachuca,forty-four miles to the eastward. Pachuca is the center of a largesilver mining district. The reduction of ores is also carried onthere to a large extent by the Patio process. Going southfrom Tula on the main line there is a gradual ascent until pass-ing through the famous cut of Nochistongo the valley of Mexicois reached, and soon our journey from the border to the capitalcomes to an end in the city of Mexico.
