eaccordingly telegraphed to Hamburg to ask that aCameroon Government steamer might be sent tofetch us. We soon grew very tired of waiting. We had every-thing that we could desire in the way of provisions:eggs, fish, bananas, and yams in abundance, and thenatives were most friendly and ready to help us in everypossible way. Apart from the plague of mosquitoes,the Pale shore would have been an ideal seaside resort.It was the uncertainty that we found so trying, andwe imagined every conceivable reason for the non-appearance of the steamer. At last we had made upour minds that our involuntary Robinson Crusade onthe island of Annobon would last until the begimiingof November, when the Spanish steamer was expectedin the ordinary course of events. Early on the13th of October, however, our boys rousedus with the welcome cry: Steamer live forcome !
