Notes
  • Significance: The Commerce Avenue Fire Hall was built in 1904. Its impressive size and design reflects the pre-occupation of growing 19th century urban centers with the threat of fire. Its Renaissance Revival façade is noted for its pressed metal cornice, dormer, and one-story portico. It is one of the best extant examples of a large downtown fire hall in the South.
  • Survey number: HABS TN-211
