The crestedbird overhead is one of the beautiful green touracos (Titracusmaerorhynchus), belonging to the jMiisophagida?, or plantain-eaters,a family wholly African, and most abundant in the westernsub-region. BeiMes.—In this class we find a large number of peculiarforms ; 13 genera of snakes, 3 of lizards, and 2 of tortoises beingconfined to the sub-region. The snakes are Pariaspis, Elapops,and Prosymna, (Calamariida^), Phamnophis, ITerpetcthiops, andGrnyia (Colubridir), Nevsferophis and LiiiDiophis (Homalopsidir),Simocephalns and Holurophis (Lycodontidio); Pclophilus (Pytho-nida;); Elnpsoidca (Klapidu) ; and Athvris (Viperida^). Thelizards are Palojfhia (Lepidosternidie) ; Otosaurus (Scincida^);Psilodaetylns (Gcckoti(hT). The tortoises, Cinyxis (Testudinidre)and Trirathyra. (Trionichidie).
