Description
English: HMS 'Princess Margaret'

Drawing. A port-bow view of the minelayer 'Princess Margaret', launched on 24 June 1914. She underwent trials on 23 October 1914 as a coastal passenger ferry for the Canadian Pacific Railway Company but was requisitioned by the Admiralty in December 1914 and converted to a minelayer. In 1918 she was used in British support to the White Russians in the post-Revolutionary Russian civil war, was purchased by the Admiralty in June 1919 and was eventually sold for scrap in 1929. This is a reasonably accurate depiction of her as flagship of the minelaying squadron in 1917-18, except that her funnels are somewhat oversized. The destroyer on the left is fictitious, not representing any particular vessel or class. For another view of the ship by the same artist, see PAF8195. Unfortunately, though clearly a competent illustrative hand, who this was is not identified; nor is the date of the drawing.
