Samuel Taylor, carries the date, 1790, together with the builder's initials, on a large round stone embedded in the wall above what was originally the front door, and on which is also carved the motto," "LOOK TO YOUR LAWS RATHER THAN PROGENITORS FOR INHERITANCE."
