ers. Preaching has been held at that pointfortnightly by the preachers on the Ovid Circuit, now incharge of Rev. Mr. Gray. The members number nowthirty-eight. The leader is Truman Shattuck ; the stew-ards, Jacob Gibbard and William Briggs. The unionSunday-school, supported by the Methodists and Congrega-tionalists, is in charge of J. W. Beckwith, and has anaverage attendance of sixty scholars and eight teachers. SIXTH-DAY ADVENTISTS. A Sixth-Day Advent Church was organized by ElderFox in 1876 at the Reed school-house, with a membershipof about forty. Conjointly with the United Brethren theAdventists built a church west of Reeds Corners in 1877,but for some reason they have latterly been denied theprivilege of using it. Their place of worship is the Reedschool-house, but they are at present without a preacher. SCHOOLS. The earliest school privileges ofiered to the children ofVictors pioneers were obtained in a basswood-log school-house, built on William Swarthouts farm in Ovid in 1839.

VICTOR TOWNSHIP. 515 The first school-house in Victor was built on section 13 in1840, in which Phccbe Laing was the first teacher. Atthe first town-meeting in Victor, April 15, 1843, it wasvoted to raise one dollar for each scholar between the agesof four and eighteen, to bo applied toward the payment ofteachers. March 25, 1845, school district No. 1 was organizedfrom sections 3, 4, 9, and 10. Fractional district No. 2,organized May 24, 1845, included the north halves of sec-tions 5 and 6 of Victor, and portions of the towns of OvidOlive, and Bingham. No. 3 was formed in 1846, and May2,1848, No. 4 was organized, to commence at the quarterstake in the north line of section 22, running east to thenortheast corner of section 23; thence north eighty rods;thence east one hundred and sixty rods ; thence southeighty rods ; thence east to the northeast corner of section24; thence south to the southeast corner of section 25;thence west to the quarter stake on the south side of sec-tion 27 ; th
