Text Appearing Before Image:
nanimous opinion amongmasters of beagles that, for a hound to do his workin the best way, he should possess good shoulders, straight legs, good feet, and a strong back and loin;and, of the smart little hounds that now come on tothe flags at Peterborough, many have these qualities. The majority of masters believing in what, after all, must be the best type, let us hope that this littlehound will continue to improve in the future as hehas done in the past, till he arrives almost toperfection. In illustration of the modern beagle, I have beenable to obtain a photograph of the Stoke PlaceArchie 03, the winner of the stallion houndprize at Peterborough last July. He is a beautifullittle hound, and is one that masters of beagleswould do well to keep in their minds eye whenlooking for a stallion hound. The Hulton Gamester00, the champion doghound at Peterboroughin 1900, is another typical hound, whose pedigreetraces to such well-known beagle sources as theRoyal Rock, Cheshire, and Mr. Johnsons.
