to be best real-ized through the success of thefirst; in other words that a strongclub of active loyal men who knoweach other well and can work to-gether for any purpose is one ofthe best possible factors in theprosperity of the city. It is theaim of the club to maintain astrong and successful organiza-tion, keeping its rooms and ap-pointments up to a high standard,and to take such part in public af-fairs as may seem desirable, us-ing its influence in a conservativebut, when necessary, powerfulway. The club is managed by a boardof twenty directors, a house com-mittee and the usual officers, whilepublic matters are considered by acommittee on public affairs. Theclub was organized in 1893 and re-organized in 1899. It now has1,100 resident members, about 175non-resident and a very large wait-ing- list, and is in a very flourish-ing condition. The annual duesare $25 and the initiation fee $50.Any man of good standing is eligi-ble but must be proposed by twomembers of the club and the pro-
