In the happy days of Prince Rudolf, CrownPrince of Austria-Hungary, Mr. Melka used to ac-company his shooting-parties in the Transylvanianmountains and make drawings—sometimes of thecompany, sometimes of their bag. He showed re-productions of many of these. One was of five bears,lying side by side, which had all been shot on thesame day. He described the scenery up in thosehigh places as magnificent, and told of lakes whichhad been without fish until he and his friends intro-duced trout. These have thriven exceedingly, andtake the fly on the rare occasions when it is offeredto them.
