first floor and the Breaker Lapper with GaugeBox and Condenser on the second. Cleaning- Trunk is of special advantage to millsusing low grade stock. All coiton contains moreor less light dirt and leaf, which it is difficult toentirely remove in the Lappers, on account of thefan draft essential to the formation of a good sheeton the screens carrying some of the lighter impuri-ties along with the cotton. The passing of thestock over the transverse Grids in the CleaningTrunk at a low velocity provides an efficient meansfor removing this dirt and leaf. We also build an English pattern Trunks which isshown in the illustration on page 22. This Trunkis supported by stands which rest on the floor, andis built in 4-ft. sections, several of these beingcoupled together. Although not automatic, it iseasily cleaned by dropping the doors which coverthe entire bottom of the Trunk and carry the Grids. In the illustration one of these doors is showndown, and the sheet iron Grids are plainly visible. 24

25BREAKER LAPPERS. On page 24 is shown our Single Beater Breaker Lapperwith Gauge Box and Condenser, and on page 28 the samemachine with a Cage Section. GAUGE BOX AND CONDENSER—We strongly recommendthe use of Gauge Boxes and Condensers when the BreakerLappers and Openers are on different floors, or the stock hasto be carried any distance. Under these conditions there is aconsiderable quantity of cotton passing between the Openerand Lapper, which on account of the stopping and starting ofthe latter is liable to make thick and thin places in the lap. The use of the Condenser and Gauge Box overcomes thisdifficulty as the cotton is received under these varying con-ditions and the Gauge Box acts as an Evener and delivers auniform supply to the Feed Rolls behind the Beater. Whenthe connection between the Opener and Breaker Lapper isshort the Cage Section can be used without difficulty. The Condenser Fan, which is of extra large size, is con-veniently placed under the Gauge Box and Condens
