Notes
  • Significance: When George R. Jowell returned to Palo Pinto County from a Kansas Trail drive in the mid-1870's and found his log cabin burned by Indians, he built this stone house. Limestone for the structure evidently was quarried at Rock Creek, thee-fourths of a mile to the northwest. Jowell lived in the building until 1881, after which it was abandoned. The building was donated to the Ranch Headquarters, the Museum of Texas Tech University, by the L.E. Seaman estate.
  • Survey number: HABS TX-3237
  • Building/structure dates: after 1870 Initial Construction
