Au mois de décembre 538, on célébra Tachèvementde Fédifice. La moitié orientale de la grande coupole,ébranlée par plusieurs tremblements de terre-—Tun en553 qui dura quarante jours et Fautre en 557, 4^^^ ^^truisit une partie de la ville — s^écroula le 7 mai 558. Justinienfit reconstruire la coupole et il charge-a dece travail le neveu d^Isidore qui augmenta Télévationde la coupole afin de diminuer les poussées et donna enmême temps plus de solidité aux grands arcs.
