En 1545 (5 deMayo) fué nombrado archivero el relator del Consejo, Antonio Catdan.Otra real cédula (25 de Agosto del mismo año) exigía imperiosamente alos consejos, audiencias, cabildos, monasterios y particulares la inmediataentrega de cuantos papeles de Estado tuvieran en su poder; y en 1559 (7 deOctubre) mandábase lo mismo a los contadores mayores, y, así, protegida (1) En el Escorial se ha enseñado siempre el estante con libros que tenia en la pieza inmediata a la al-coba en que murió. Véase Quevedo (Historia del Escorial, 2.^ edición, 1854, pág. 346). Todos son de devo-ción, excepto la Agricultura, de Herrera (Medina del Campo, 1584). Pero hoy sabemos por el flamencoLHermite, su ayuda de cámara, que usaba otros de las diversas Facultades indicadas en el texto, y se han co-locado en la habitación por D. José M.
