LE VOILE FÉMININ. — LES CHAUSSURES. 123 456 78 911 13 10 12 14 15 Ces exemples fragmentaires pTOviennenfc des peintures à fresque ornant les voûtes de légliseabbatiale de Saint-Savin, en Poitou, et représentant, à la manière du temps, quelques scènesde lAncien Testament et les principaux épisodes du martyre de saint Sa\dn et de saint Cy-prien. Ces peintures du onzième siècle, qui offrent de nombreux rapports avec celles descatacombes de Rome, montrent des personnages portant le costume dune époque où la modefrançaise procédait encore de la mode franque décrite par Eginhard. Ce ne fat quà partirde 1100, à lépoque appelée « le grand siècle du Moyen-Age », quun changement radicaleut lieu, surtout dans le costume des hommes, qui devint long, après avoir été court pen-dant plus de six cents ans.
