The deformity seems to begin in theupper end of the tibia, but as soon as any deformityhas developed the line of gravity falls too far to theouter side of the joint, the inner lateral ligamentsstretch, the line of gravity goes farther out, weight i&carried on the outer femoral condyle and its growth isretarded while the inner condyle relieved from weight-bearing grows abnormally long. Similar changes takeplace in the articular surface of the tibia. Coxa varaconsists of a change in the relation of the head of thefemur to the shaft of that bone.
