hich cover an area 323 feet longby 58 feet wide. The offices for assist- well for light and air in the center. Theheavy goods are stored on the groundfloor and the light goods on the gallery,access to which for tramway trucks, etc.,is aff^orded by means of a small hydrauliclift, other large stores being hauled upby a hydraulic crane direct from thewagons as they arrive. A small space isset apart for the workmen who requireany article from the stores, where theypresent their respective foremans ticket. The Boiler Shop, Fig. 2, is 439 feet longby III feet wide, formed in three bays,the first being used for building and re-pairing boilers, the middle bay being usedfor miscellaneous work, including ten-ders and tanks, while the third bay isused exclusively for tools, such as drilling,punching and shearing machines. Thesmall rivet furnaces in this shop are firedbj- liquid fuel injected by compressed air.At the end of the shop the roof is car-ried some i6 feet higher for two spansand the full width of the shop, to form ariveting tower. In this space is provideda pair of hydraulic pumps and accumula-tor, and two fixed hydraulic riveters forboiler work, each having a hydrauliccrane for lifting the boilers when rivet-ing. The longest boiler can be rivetedin a vertical position. Liquid fuel fur-naces are fixed in close proximity to thecranes and riveting machines. Portablehydraulic riveting machines are used inevery case where it is possible. The Boiler Shop Smithy, which is anadjunct to the boiler shop, measuring 120feet long by iii feet wide, formed in twobays, is fitted with several smiths hearths,dome fire, etc. The hydraulic flangingpresses are also fixed in this shop forflanging firebox backs, tube-plates, etc.,gas furna
