The pelvis may be so much distorted asto render delivery impossible, but this is a rare oc-currence ; and where there is extensive deformity,the female is generally aware of the fact, or has everyreason to suspect it, and will therefore prudently re-frain from matrimony. It often happens, however,that a woman is deformed in the back and limbs, andyet is perfect with regard to the pelvis, so that thisshould be taken into the account when a questionarises as to the propriety of entering the married state. ABDOMEN AND ABDOMINAL REGIONS. 9. The trunk of the body is divided into two greatcavities, the upper one being the chest or thorax, andthe lower one the abdomen, signifying to hide or con-ceal. 10.
