The travellers spent the night at this farm, the accommodationsof which were wretched in the extreme; and in the morning, aftera plunge into the lake, the water of which being almost freezingand making ones flesh creep, and skin as red as a lobster, andhaving breakfasted on rye-grod and milk, they pursued theircourse aci-oss the isthmus which divides the two branches of theMios. The Journal describes the scenery of the Totak-Vand, which liesabout ten miles south-west of the Mios, as of the most charmingdescription, and in striking contrast with the desolate character ofthe former lake. The elevation of the Totak-Vand must be con-siderably lower, for the Journal speaks of descending to it througha
