Success has been the resultof his energy and foresight, and twodistinctions have been conferred uponhim ; his name has been given to thetown which his enterprise has builded,and his Hawaiian Majesty has createdhim a Knight Commander of the Orderof Kalakaua. Leaving the plantation of the Ha-waiian Commercial Company, wepassed the Paia plantation, and ar-rived shortlx after at Makawao. Herewe halted to give our quartermaster anopportunity to purchase supplies. While actively engaged in doing nothing, we were pleasantly surprised 194 ONE SUMMER IN HA WAIT. to receive an open-air call, followed byan invitation to lunch.
