Text Appearing Before Image:
a sun of fortythousand lens-power concentrated upon us, tired anddirty with a weeks coach-ride: was it wonder thatthe mildest of tempers rebelled ?—transferred to othercarriages, our hosts drove us through the city to thehotel; and then,—bless their Mormon hearts for thethought,—they took us at once to a hot sulphur bath, that nature liberally offers just on the confines of thecity, and there we washed out all remembrance of themorning suffering and all the accumulated grime andfatigue of the journey, and came out baptized in fresh-ness and self-respect. A stream of hot sulphurouswater like a big brook poured into a great basin thathad been prepared for its reception; and swimmingin its luxury of freshness and abundance, with antici-pations of the tens of thousands that the Railroadwill bring; of invalids seeking strength, of the dirtyseeking cleanliness, of connoisseurs in life seekingcomfort, we dedicated Salt Lake City to the use andthe enjoyment of the great American people.
