A return trip to Vancou-ver was made by the Stanford team inthe Christmas vacation of 1906. Inthis trip the college boys from sunnyCalifornia were beaten in both the gamesplayed. In 1907 a picked New Zealand teammet the teams of the Pacific coast andswept everything before them. Theirplaying was a revelation to the playerson this side of the water. It spurredthe American teams to greater effortsand showed them the possibilities of rug-by. The New Zealanders also taughttheir opponents many fine points of play. The next foreign team to play on thecoast was the Australian team of 1908,known as the Wallabies. While thisteam was not as expert as their NewZealand brethren, they also won everygame they played here. The AustralianRugby Union sent an invitation for areturn match to the California union,and in the summer of 1909 the Ameri-can team left for the Antipodes. They

Although theywere generally beaten by their more ex-perienced opponents, the Americans madea very good showing and thoroughly en-joyed their trip. The coming of the Australian Wara-tahs last year furnished the next inter-national match. This team was not assuccessful as its predecessors had been, be crossed while on foreign soil, andthey were disappointed only once. Theywon from the crack team of Stanfordby the enormous scores of 54—0 and56—0. These games were on the Stan-ford turf field, where the All-Blackswere more at home than on the dirtfields they had to play on later.
