ted at the Skin and CancerHospital and apparently cured, but in all probability has sincesuffered from the recurrent attacks which are always to be expected. The second illustration shows a well-marked case of the bullousform of the disease. The lesions in this case were not grouped toany extent but covered the greater portion of the body, and wereeven noted in the oral cavity and in the rectum. They showedlittle or no tendency to coalesce, as in pemphigus, but remainedisolated for the most part in spite of the great number of lesions.With every fresh outbreak numerous blebs could be seen, but thesewere quickly transformed by scratching into small ulcers or inflamedand crusted lesions. When the crusts fell, purplish-red spotsremained for a long time. This patient was under my observation for several years, andthough well at times was always liable to a sudden and acuteoutbreak, for which no cause could be assigned and no remedyfound which seemed to have any special value. PLATE XIX.ECZEMA ERYTHEMATOSUM ECZEMA ERYTHEMATOSUM This patient, seventy-one years of age, had suffered more or lessfrom eczema for twenty years. It had l^een chiefly conhned to theface but occasionally affected other parts of the body. The skin uponthe forehead and cheeks was of a dull red hue and thickened to sucha degree that the natural furrows were greatly exaggerated. The itch-ing of the affefted parts was intense and the eyebrows had beenscratched or rubbed so persistently that only a short stubble-likegrowth of hair remained. A chronic conjunftivitis caused constantlachrymation with thickening of the lids and prevented the completeopening of one eye. The patient was a great eater of meat and sutTered from consti-pation. A change of diet with an alkaline diuretic taken in copiousdraughts of water improved his general condition, while an ointmentcontaining ten per cent, of oil of cade relieved the intolerable pruritus.
