Description |
English: Pierhead House at the Shadwell entrance to London Docks, 1896 A view looking towards Pierhead House, surrounded by trees and bushes. On the right in the distance are the warehouses of the wharves on the south bank dominating the skyline. The house, built in 1831-32, was more usually known as the Dockmaster's Office and was alongside the original Shadwell Entrance to London Docks. At the time of this painting it was the home of Captain G. Dawson Taylor who retired as Dockmaster in 1901. The house was demolished in the 1970s. |
