The upper portion, shapedin the inside as well as the exterior like an hour-glass, seems to have been moved by a lever, in-serted through the square aperture, and fastenedby a cross pin, for which the hole may be ob-served. This is removed in one to show theconical piece whereon the moveable part turned,with another square sinking on its apex: pro-bably to let something in for the purpose offastening the lever, so as to keep all in itsplace. Over the top where the corn was put inis generally about 2 feet 6 inches ; the flour fellaround on the lower cylinder : two of these werewithin 16 inches of the wall; consequently thelever could not have completed the circle.
